Heritage Weekend

We are delighted that both St Helen’s and St Michael’s churches will be taking part in the Heritage Open Days from Friday 18th to Sunday 20th September.

This annual celebration of our shared heritage offers a wonderful opportunity for visitors and local residents alike to explore two of the county’s most historic churches, learn more about their history and discover something of the generations who have worshipped within their walls as common life now.

One particular attraction will be the display of our ancient parish registers. These remarkable records provide a fascinating glimpse, sometimes written on vellum, into the lives of those who have lived in our communities over many centuries, recording baptisms, marriages and burials that help tell the story of the parish and its people.

The weekend will begin with a Big Band Concert at St Helen’s Church on the Friday evening, providing a lively and enjoyable start to the celebrations. Further details of the concert will be announced nearer the time.

We would also like to hear your ideas for other activities or displays that could take place during the Heritage Open Days weekend. Whether you have an interest in local history, family history, mission, church architecture, music, or simply have a suggestion that might help make the weekend more enjoyable for visitors, we would be pleased to hear from you.

Heritage Open Days provide a valuable opportunity not only to showcase our beautiful church buildings but also to celebrate the people, stories and the good news of the gospel that has shaped our parish over the centuries. We hope many members of the community will join us and help make the weekend a memorable occasion.

If you have suggestions or would like to become involved in helping with the weekend, please contact one of the churchwardens or speak to a member of the clergy.
